This is probably a stupid question but why are girls excluded from doing seiken pushups? I know there has to be a valid (probably medical) reason for it.

If only there was! lol!

I'm female and I've been made to do them at almost every single dojo where I've trained, both in the US and Japan. In the little dojo where I trained in Hirakata we had to do 80 before and after every class, and I was training with two other girls and three little kids as young as 4 years old (which is hard, because I couldn't cheat the push ups or they'd tell sensei). >_<

Maybe you should ask your instructor, he may have a good reason for not having a girl in your dojo do seiken pushups (like an injury or something).

Makes sense. Unless she just can't put weight on her knuckles.(if I got the right posture)

XD If it was just one girl I wouldn't be asking. The sensei explicitly says that girls don't have to do seiken push-ups and can do regular push-ups instead.
I'll ask around tomorrow and tell you what I find ^___^

I'm pretty curious. I mean, being female and all.

I didn't get to ask but I think I figured it out. It turns out we had some new recrewts and it was aimed towards them. Today when I looked around everyone was doing a propper seiken push-up.

Mystery solved! I should pay more attention to my suroundings XD

As I read this, I found my missing tablet pen... It was in my back pocket.

I'm no judge. I can't do push-ups period.

I got lucky, or rather unlucky with that when I first started training. One week after my first karate lesson I was in a car accident on my bike and somehow bashed the pinky and ring-finger side of my knuckles into the pavement. I didn't break anything, but I became highly motivated to use the first two knuckles to do push-ups out of sheer soreness. I guess it all worked out in my favor in the end. At the time I felt really stupid though. =_=
