Yeah, pretty much. The term "karate chop" is a bunch of hot air. The striking surface used (the side meaty part of the hand) is technically a shuto, used in many common strikes and blocks. Although in my school an overhand chopping motion is considered to be less than the most useful or strong application of shuto, shuto in general is very useful.
The reason I put this in there is because my sensei has done this to me before =_= also punching lightly in the shoulder blades when I slouch. ...the "karate chop" title was mostly for fun.
